anyone in (or near) NYC have a Sterling Modular Plan D i can check out?

i'm going to be in the market for a new desk and the Sterling Plan D is the only one, on paper, that seems to work for me. however, i don't want to drop $3k on a desk without being able to sit in it and check it out.

is there anyone in the NY area, either a retailer or a kind studio soul, who has a Plan D set up that i could check out?

i'll bring beer!

i live an hour north of NYC.

thanks..
taylor

this is a reposted thread from this past April that go no replies on the SO MUCH GEAR board...

i also posted this:

i'm most interested in how far one has to reach forward to reach the top racks. this desk will be used in a mastering situation and i don't want to have to reach massively forward and stretch uncomfortably to reach the gear...

I have a Plan E (With Center rack), but I'm in Boston.

All the best,

the plan E has the same basic footprint of the D, doesn't it? except for a center rack instead of desk/monitor space?

if so, do you find the gear in the desktop racks to your left and right hard to access in any way? do you find yourself leaning excessively to one side or another (messing up your stereo image as you move towards one speaker) to tweak gear?

I don't have gear that needs to be adjusted way up on the top of the outside racks. Basically my patchbay is in the top of the left rack and the HDCD Model 1 is in the top of the right. Everything else is within easy reach.

Taylor,

I have a plan E in NYC and you are welcome to come by and sit at it and take a look. Email me at sterlingaudio@gmail.com to make an appointment.

I do think that for some equipment, the controls are too far away in the top rack spaces. I think that those spaces are best for things like meters, patchbays, and converters that don't get tweaked constantly.

Best regards,
Alex
