Limiting vs Compression or Both !!

hi there, i have this question about the final mastering chain, I've tried almost every recipe for the mastering chain and I'm still quiet confused in whether using an individual compressor, individual limiter or both?? also if using both in the mastering chain is there any common advice for the setting ? i know that every project needs its unique touch in the chain but anything common???

compress, then limit: the easy way!

Just Compress, the limiter could erase some comp's character on the sound.

Other options at your fingertips...

Most ME's are more than likely to use both.

Theoretically (i.e. under a certain description) compression and limiting are the same, but their role in audio production is very different.

Theoretically your mouth and your bum are the same (they're both terminal apertures of the alimentary canal) but their role in maintaining nutritional health is very different too.

(I have no idea why that analogy occurred to me - just be thankful I gave you the cleaned up version, disallowing the `production' parallel).

Cheers,

Eric

Yes compress before limiting......although I don't actually limit these days......not that compression either......

Oh...and thanks for that explanation mate......now I understand why I talk so much $hit and cover my ass when I burp!!!

Is there a surgical procedure to correct this?
