Backline DDP Mobile: DDP Player for iOS

We just submitted Backline DDP Mobile, a DDP player for iPhone & iPod touch (and iPad), to Apple. Backline DDP Mobile allows you to load, examine and playback DDP files. It also includes a database of mastering studios & engineers.

The app will be *free to download and install*. The free version of the app includes full access to the mastering studio database and the ability to load and examine DDP filesets. Playback is unlocked via onetime in-app purchase (tentatively US $14.99).

We very much want to include as many mastering studios in the database as possible, so if you'd like to be listed, please contact us at support [at] audiofile-engineering.com.

Files are loaded via iTunes file sharing (iPad: About File Sharing), thus the app requires iOS 3.2 or higher and iTunes 9.1 or later.

Here are some screenshots:

Great news - we were discussing this in the studio just the other day. Is there any way in which it could also download (and unzip?) a ddp from an ftp server?

Best

A familiar and auspicious song choice in the screencap there. Boy, that looks loud. [/brow-pinch emoticon]

App-wantingly,

Actually, the set has to be zipped to import anyways, so no worries there. This is definitely possible. Please submit it to us as a feature request. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, couple this with some really simple/cheap ddp player for mac/pc and you have a serious hit.

I don't know much about ios devices.

Do any have digital outputs or CD writing capability?

I'm also wondering why you would want to listen to a DDP on your phone, etc.

I guess I tend to favor things that are both cool and useful.

It's a cheap and easy way for clients to proof track spacing, cd text, etc.

What's the trick to getting a zipped DDP file into iTunes so it can be uploaded to my iPhone.

I can't believe I'm asking this, but how long does it take to load a one hour DDP into your phone?
