help with USA upc/ean code

my USA clients sended me this barcode for on his master_cd : 884502760989
it's only 12 digits ... also the image/jpg of the barcode contains the same 12 numbers .. is that something usual in the USA or should it also be explicit 13numbers like wavelab asks and is common overhere ???

thnx in advance ..

UPC/EAN should always be 13 digits (12 digit UPC usually has a leading 0 to bring it in line with the EAN).

cheers,

UPC to EAN and EAN to GTIN each expands with a 0 in the beginning.

The following doesn't apply in this case, but I've also had it in the past that a UPC/EAN was submited to me without the last (check) digit. There's a calculator at UPC Database: Check Digit Calculator so if there's doubt that the number is complete/correct, enter the full code without the last digit and match the generated check digit with your last digit.

As they've said above: add the extra zero in front (not at the end). The UPC and EAN codes are compatible.

Thanks for this! The CD manufacturing side of my company issues bar codes and also accepts bar codes from clients to put in their artwork. This is a good way to check the validity of the latter.

Thanks for that link, Robin. While it's all EAN 13 here at least, not having the check digit has, on rare occasions, certainly delayed projects. I'm sure I'm not alone there.
