Buying lathe....where?

Hi. Does anyone have a good source for buying lathes? Or at least someone who would be a contact for info during this process.

All I've come across is Lathe Trolls. Great stuff, just wondering if there's other useful sites/contacts.

I'm in Canada so I'm not sure if it's even worth looking in European centers.

Thanks. I've had trouble finding info on the net. Perhaps it's such a niche market and sales are rare.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Al Grundy in Brooklyn (you can PM me at steve at totalsonic dot net for his contact info) generally has one or two complete and restored Neumann systems for sale in the $30,000 range. Al (along with Sean Davies in UK, Chris Muth in NY, and Jvo at Vinylium in Switzerland) is one of the most knowledgeable people on Neumann lathes out there so anything you get from him will be working and setup correctly.

Len Horowitz reconditions Scully/Westrex/Haeco gear in Culver City CA and might have a line on systems for sale - History of Recorded Sound
He's another incredibly knowledgeable person and has been incredibly generous to me with time and info when I phoned him.

Gib Ebling at Wes Tech Services in Ohio reconditions and restores 1930's - 1950's vintage consumer oriented record cutters so if you were looking for a inexpensive hobbyist machine for fun he usually has a few for sale as well -
West-Tech Services - Phonographs For Sale

If you search ebay under "record cutter", "record lathe" "Neumann" "Scully" etc. you'll usually turn up some cutting systems, lathes or lathe parts for sale.

At the moment there's a Neumann VMS-70 without amps or cutter head listed at Neumann VMS70 lathe turntable SME arm mnt record clamp - eBay (item 320558965233 end time Jul-18-10 05:33:38 PDT)

Lathe Trolls classified section is certainly a great place to keep your eyes out for one as well.

Best regards,
