A bad day for Gearslutz and our mastering forum - Removed from Wikipedia

On July 5th, Gearslutz and all its Wikipedia backlinks were permanently removed by Dr. Evil Dog (flash news and courtesy email by primativ).

This is in retaliation to Riccardo's banning of him and his master EV from the mastering forum. Dr. Evil Dog thinks there will never be a Gearslutz on Wikipedia again. I say what TF? (who gives a dump).

Not sure of all this but we are Gearslutz, the most powerful audio site on earth and we don't need Google's top ranking results from Wikipedia backlinks. We will continue to be the most relevant word in audio on the web regardless.

Dr. Evil Dog's plan to destroy Gearslutz notability didn't work, Google will never drop Gearslutz from its audio keyword top results any time soon and we will continue to prevent his EV mate from spreading crazy ideas on spectrum analysis.

We have invested too much qid to have someone like him promoting the idea that RTAs can substitute the use of any professional acoustically designed mastering rooms.

Join us to say no and to ignore EV and his Wikipedia cronies who visit us daily to this end. Please send an email to the Wikimedia Foundation demanding that the Gearslutz article be reinstated at once.

Riccardo-Jayfrigo move this to another section if need be.

I don't know about the importance of backlinks from Wikipedia. They've got rel="nofollow" tags in them anyway.

bfd. I really don't see why there should be a Wiki article on something as insignificant as a pro-audio banter forum anyway. The value of this place is the forum itself.

Best regards,

After I brief research I find what you've said is absolutely right but at the Wikipedia end. The problem is that SE's like Google and even Yandex don't take those tags into account at all. An old mate of mine who worked at Google once told me that search engines got their own algorithms and search criterias which usually ignore sites' tags.

Is that really what it was all about? Really? I mean, really? One daft issue which in any case regenerates a train-wreck thread every fortnight in some guise or another?

I doubt it.

Yes mate, but what is worse is that EV doesn't exist. Is a nom de plume. Has anyone, I mean any member ever met EV?

Someday, our descendants will look back and marvel at what an asinine idea Wikipedia was.

Yes, I met Edward in person at the Brooklyn ME's hangout we had a couple months ago. He was very courteous in person, although he didn't stay for that long at it (it started over drinks for a good bit at the Pencil Factory and then we had a tour of Paul Gold's studio at the end of the evening).

Which reminds me - I think it's time we organized another NYC ME's hangout sometime soon! Maybe in Manhattan this time?

Don't get me wrong. I loves me some forum drama, I like gearslutz, and by no means am I an apologist for EV. (I didn't even know who "EV" was until dcollins linked. To be honest from his forum avatar and disagreements I had with him about some technical topics, I always figured he was some teenager or something, .)

But I have no respect for people who:
  • write first posts about Wikipedia drama
  • feign "who gives a dump" in a post that is entirely about giving a dump
  • justify forum superiority with Alexa rankings

Oh No! So who was it on the grassy knoll?

Personally I'm a tad more suspicious of people with just 4 posts who can't spell the name of their own English county correctly (just the one `h' will do nicely). But that's just lil' ol' gullible me.

Cheers,

Eric

I don't think many of us are really that concerned. I didn't mind having Edward here to ruffle a few feathers.

What I don't like is people such as yourself coming to bitch about someone on a public forum instead of to their face. Especially someone with 4 posts and no credentials listed.

In case you haven't noticed yet.......... Ed/Samproject/JakeUk is still with us.

I am sure RTAs have their uses, nothing against them.

Wikipedia is full of troll crap and BS from people with business interests. Who cares? You should be happy "Gearslutz" is NOT on Wikipedia. Also, Gearslutz links appear on the first page or few when searching for pretty much any audio production related hardware.

I agree, and I wish more forums enforced a "Wikipedia does NOT belong on the forums" policy.

bzzzt wrong. I have my own vBulletin Board, unless you are the admin (Jules) you can't see IP's. Super moderators could also do that but that's not his rank....any troll with half a brain can use a proxy like this one anyway....I bet RR is only assuming is Ed because of all the recent EV-BS related threads...me thinks all these troll IPs are not the same (Am I EV?), whaddaya think Riccardo
