Sonic Maximizer ... has a place in Mastering ?

Hi.. I see that the newer sonic maximizer 882i has very low noise, and balanced in's and out's... I have always thought this to be a cheapo live sound gizmo, and didn't have a place in a pro recording or mastering studio.. Anyone have anything good to say about it ? (anything bad is welcome too... hahhahah ) thanks ! ( I have the original plugin version that kinda always sounded a bit harsh and tiny... maybe the newer hardware version is better ? )

Must be a good emulation.

Really? I tried that and it didn't work well for that either.

Yeah, you'll find no love here for the BBE, but it has uses, great on toms, or for brightening cassettes! Or try this- try a 4 Khz cut before the BBE and crank it til the top end is "close" to where it was. Now you have the "corrective" time (as well as some freq dependent compression) domain processing without so much of the brittle high mid. Worked for me a couple of times on things that were "hit" records where I'm from...

Yes - if you are mastering grindcore, punk and other stuff that's supposed to sound bad.

Not much call for this anymore, but...

The only time I would EVER recommend putting it across a two-mix is if you are dubbing cassettes (to fight the mud).

(Even then, use it lightly, and don't push the lows.)
