Hi Jonas,

yes, the server part of Rumpus is Mac only (that's a good thing...), but it will run on anything that runs OS X and is very conservative in it's resource use.

The website stipulates 10.4.6 or later, and either PPC or Intel (i.e. Universal). We run it on an old G4 mini, and have zero problems.

So a silver G4 would probably be fine. You can probably pick up a used mini for close to $100 these days, to save space (and noise).

I would recommend staying at 10.4.11 for any PPC machine, all our G4s that were upgraded to 10.5 ran worse (slower, less smooth, etc) than with 10.4, which was IMHO the best version for PPC hardware.

Best regards,
Thor

I can manage my Webspace and my data with the Parallels Confixx Control Panel.
This is management software you get defaults from the hosting provider where i am.

There i can create new extra FTP-User, and also i have for every new FTP User a seperat nice WEB FTP Control Panel
(with Password) for uploading Data via Browser, which is very easy to use.
Without an extra FTP Program. Only a few Buttons for Upload etc.
Works very fine and its easy to use.

I love http://WeTransfer.com

Up to 2GB, you can upload multiple files at once, has a clean look, no sign up needed and it gives you a download confirmation. I use it every time I need to transfer files digitally and recommend it to my clients.

I figure the amount of cash is worth it in saving me the time of setting folks up with FTP passwords and explaining how to get and use an FTP client every time someone wants to upload files to me.

+1 I also pay $10 a month to have a personal drop box right on my web site that doesn't require clients to have an account with yousendit and that alone is worth the $10 a month fee. I also have a 2gig limit and that has come in handy many times.

This is a cool thread. I enjoyed reading through all the other options out there. Thanx for starting it..

YouSendIt recently ran a promo where you could get the DropBox subscription for $6 a month by pre-paying for a year. This was worth it for me.

I guess not, just sended a file to myself and the offer is there.

Only thing I'm not sure if I understand is, does the customer (uploader) has to become a member too if the file is near 2 gb?

I also tried WeTransfer.com, very nice.

I'm a big fan of getdropbox.com. Free 2 gig account for clients. $10 for 50gigs per month for yourself.I really like the sharing of folders, its a great connection to clients. Plus its pretty simple to get clients going on it. I took a look at soundclound and it was pretty cool but I was having difficulties in organizing and know when/where files were uploaded to. Maybe I was missing something.
