Thread Starter | Exceptional recording post...? Hey mastering Slutz, I was just listening to a CD whilst reading this forum, and thought I'd contribute it to an "exceptional/reference recordings" thread. I've seen such a tread before a couple of years back.... just been searching for it (or similar) but can't find such a thread except for in the "hip hop" forum..... So mods feel free to merge/move this...?! Anyway, Lou Rhodes - Beloved One - 2006 - Infinite Bloom (her own label). I seem to remember it was recorded at ridge farm studios (might be wrong though) and I don't think it was a particularly high budget project. Listening to tracks such as "Why", "Inlakesh" and "Fortress", I would suggest IMHO it's one of the better recordings I've heard. I would go as far as saying it's one of my favorite sounding albums of all time - I didn't think Lou Rhodes would want to be a competitor in the loudness war, hence this album having transients. But if you listen to her next album "Bloom" its a very different story. So, on Lipinski's anyway, Beloved one stands out. Highly recommended listening, great album! |

Verified Member | Well......hardly surprising.... She is a fantastic artist, the album was arranged and produced by our esteemed moderator and world class drummer, programmer, engineer Emre. If I am not mistaken mastered by one of the regular contributors of this board Dave-G ............

Verified Member | I still love 'Joshua judges Ruth' by Lyle Lovett, produced by George Massenburg. It's not a spring chicken (1992), but it *is* an exceptional recording of great songs played by great players - I have 'I've Been To Memphis' on my Masterlink as a reference track, and it never fails to make me marvel at how well this stuff can be done when it's done right - worth it for the three drum/bass/piano hits alone, I reckon. Joshua Judges Ruth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia FWIW, another more recent Masterlink fave is 'Troublemaker' from Weezer's Red album, mastered by DC - certainly gets the blood going in the morning! I'll draw a veil across the disturbing sight of a middle-aged man bellowing 'I'm a troublemaker/never been a faker' while his family rightly cover their ears. I've just ordered 'Beloved One'. |
