Logics Gain utility plugin

Whats up everyone,

While trying to mix a new track down, I found myself having some volume autmation going on a couple of tracks. I was wondering if I could just simply use logics gain utility plugin to lower or increase the volume of the track without having to shift+drag all of the autmation data. Would this degrade the signal in any way or alter it in any negative way ? If so, would just sending the specified track to a new bus and controlling the volume there be a better option ?

My second question is, if this could be applied to the Master output as well ? I was wondering if for say my output were to be clipping, could I just slam the Gain plugin on there to avoid having to modify all of my tracks faders manually ?

Thank you all very much in advance

P.S. I looked everywhere to find any info on this but with no success.

No, won't degrade the signal at all....it is the ideal way to alter the overall volume of a track without having to mess with your automation

Or, if you already have a comp or EQ on the automated channel, you can adjust the gain on either of those as well.
This saves opening up an extra plugin just to tweak the overall level of that channel.

Remember that you can hold down the Command key while dragging the vertical yellow automation bar up/down (in automation view) to offset automation on a track. This way you don't have to shift+drag the automation which is slow and annoying.

No. However, there's a small offset "error" in the I/O plug-in that means you can't always get it to match the fader value exactly, if that's what you wanted.

Yes, or simply lower the stereo ouput fader. The Gain plug-in can be inserted as the first plug-in on the stereo output if you're overloading the input of a plug-in later in the chain on the stereo output. If you're not using plug-ins on the stereo output, then simply lower the fader. Logic operates in floating point, so there will be no loss of audio quality by doing so.
