L3 Ultramaximizer dithering

Hi,

I just realized today (to my horror!) that I may have been making a big mistake with the L3. If I'm bouncing out of Logic to 24 bit Aiff and I have the L3 on the master bus, should I switch the shape tab to "none"? I usually just tweak the levels, unless I'm bouncing to 16bit in which case I switch the dither tab to 16.

What scenario would require 24 bit dithering? Does it have anything to do with the internal audio engine bit depth? A quick clarification would really help. Thanks!

If you are using Logic and want to come out of it at 24 bit, it's probably best to not have any dither or noise shaping on the L3.

Don't be worrying about it too much though!
You can stack up IDR dither with no real noise issues, just like on the hardware L2.

The 24 bit dither on the L3 is really working with DAW's such as Cubase, Nuendo, WaveLab etc.
Making 24 bit files from 32 bit float files!
