mastering chain level loss

i did a test yesterday...im running my analog console through a "mastering chain" , if you will...i convert the analog signal with a crane song hedd and then i go digitally into waves max bass where im doing a 2:1 light compression and heavy limiting..then into a tascam cdrw 750...the cd burner in levels look like they are for the most part steady at 0 db with small dips...after i made a copy with the chain , i decided to just do a bounce to disk in pro tools and compare the 2 mixes...the bounced version seemed to have 5 db maybe more of level and to be " in your face" a bit more....any ideas?????

hmm

I am assuming your levels were not clipping before the mastering phase right?

Have never used this particular piece of gear but I would think the analog conversion would add a slight amount more compression since its replicating the warm tape vibe which will push the volume down a bit more. Try backing off the additional compressor a bit and see if that works. You may have to tweak but the limiter should still keep you from peaking above 0db.

Hope this helps, if no Sorry and best of luck!

no not clipping ..coming out of the console im staying as "hot "as i can prior to distortion and going into the a/d converter im staying as close to 0 db with the occasional transient overage...its strange to me cause everything looks like its way up at 0 db ( even the input on the cd burner going in) but when i compare it to anything else its certainly lower in volume..
