I'm not criticizing anything. I only question the sample rate conversion as a "advantage" for mastering, since it did not measure up when I investigated and has since been removed.

And I repeat that SAW STudio did not measure up on the SRC rating website, regardless of the numerous opinions offered. The owner guy asked not to be represented.

I read this on their newsgroup before the thread was taken off. You can't read that now because it has been deleted for obvious reasons.

Whatever. The SRC functions in the popular apps seem to be rated quite highly. There are poorer quality SRC in DAWs, but typically in the less popular apps.

Well I use Sony's CD Architect 5.2 (and my version can use VST!) along with Sound Forge 9.0 for any 2 track editing as you can zoom into every single sample, if needed.

I also use IK's RX Advanced for sample rate conversion & light EQ (or r8brain) and Click Repair if needed (on light settings)

Plugins I use are ozone, l2, massey 2007l, anything voxengo (when needed, usually just the elephant and eq's) and sometimes Waves SSL Comp or API 2550 for a light hair of compression (again depending on the source material)

I try to stay away from using too-many plugins though.

lately though I haven't been doing ANY hard limiting on my projects and the dynamic mixes sound so much clearer this way. As I see it clients are becoming more open (again) to having dynamic records that aren't brickwalled. I think Death Magnetic WAS the peak of the loudness wars.

here's hoping

The question should be, “which ones you don’t use” as DAW editors.
Many a times, I jump DAW’s as per requirments, preferance or neccessity etc..

I started of with SoundForge, v.9 now.
Also use Wavelab v5/ Sequoia, Samplitude for POW-r/ CD Architect/ even used Vegas at times…
I find Wavelab, has the best set of tools and ergonomics to master with.

Cheers,
KAyo

There's DirectiXer, it can turn any 1-2 channel VST plugin into a DirectX plugin...
KVR: Tonewise DirectiXer - Virtual Instrument - Virtual Effect - Plug-in Host
but unfortunately the website is down. I hope they release it for free if they are just going to otherwise
Abandonware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hard to tell with the whole website down.

With the dual app paradigm you have to go back to the processing app, re-edit files, reinsert into the second assembly app, and repeat again if any further tweaks are needed.

Having worked both ways there's no way in heck I'd ever want to go back to the two app paradigm.

Wavelab here, and I can't imagine it being any easier than it currently is. Even though I seldom have anyone mention DDP requirements to me, it would be nice to have option that built-in, rather than the expensive plugin. Other than that, I've found Wavelab indispensable. If I had to nitpick, some proper VST automation would be nice...

You can't automate VST effects in Wavelab!?

Not via automation. You can only automate via clip based processing, i.e. by having different effect settings on plugin instances that are assigned to clips (regions). These can then have crossfades (delay compensation works without a problem), so changes can be smooth if wanted. To me, for 99% of operations here, this is preferable to having to record continuous automation. Still, having the option would be nice.

I've used Wavelab close to 10 years. I don't have any complaints.

Cheers!

Wavelab 6. I've used WL for at least ten years.

(v7 is in the works, PG is - as usual - keeping his lips tightly closed.)

Yeah, there are minimally invasive workarounds, and being able to switch over to a montage, split the wav where necessary and drag the offending clip to a new track probably isn't any more time consuming; it just means you have to set up another instance of your effect and recreate settings.

VST automation isn't essential, and I understand why PG doesn't implement it. If I ever needed automation, I could just use Cubase, then switch to Wavelab for the burn.

I do admire PG's lack of upgrade/update fever -- if it ain't broke...
