Ozone 4? or go the extra $$ for a Duende?

Just wanting some opinions to help me decide.

I want to get a better quality on my final mixes and decided it was time to purchase some better plugins for mastering.

Currently using iMac Duo 2.4 intel>Duet>Logic 8

Lemme know what you guys think

I'm in Australia and don't have anywhere I can actually try the Duende and give it back if i dont like it...so just doing a bit of research be4 i commit to buy

Hi k-yo,

I think Ozone 4 is an excellent bet as a one stop solution. You can download a trial version.

iZotope Ozone 4 Complete Mastering System

Unfortunately I do not own Duende but do use TC Powercore 6000 and Focusrite Liquid Mix which are both firewire units. Ozone compares well and I'm guessing in the right hands one can achieve very respectable results (here I think knowledge and experience outways code!).

Regards,
mcz

I really like ozone, I don't use it as much for actual mixing as I do mastering. I would have to spend some time getting used to ozone's sound and functions if i were to mix with it. There really is a lot within ozone itself.

Right now I use REQ6 for almost everything and master with ozone.

I've got Ozone 4 and Duende and spend far too much money of stuff I don't need . Get a Duende for mixing, but not home mastering IMHO.

With Duende you'd surely have to shell out more for the X-EQ and possibly the X-Comp, right (the bus compressor and channel strip are mix tools). Then there's still no limiter, enhancers etc. Ozone 4 gives you far more, it's cheaper and sounds great if you tweak.

Great responses!

Sounds like the direction to take is get Ozone to try my hand @ home mastering...and maybe some other plugs for Mixing. Logic has cool plugs i think, but I've been using em for 2 yrs now and feel its time to step up my game in terms of using other plugs n get a diff feel

whatcha guys think of plugs to compliment Ozone/Logic for mastering and mixing?

Well, I can't speak for logic as I use PT8. I find the waves plugins to be pretty good. I was using digidesigns plugins for a while but as I was eqing i switched between renaissance eq 6 and the regular eq and noticed there was a really big difference in how the EQ sounded between the two, so I use that for now.

Other than the mercury bundle and ozone I really don't have much else, I don't think you need much else, but I wouldn't mind recommendations myself. Especially for effects plugins .

I find a new Ozone 4 limiter algorythm very very good, it preserves transients and transparency of a mix. Best plug-in limiter I've ever used. Stereo imaging tools are pretty useful to reach mids and highs clarity. The one thing I don't like is EQ Section, just using m.band exciter or m.band limiter instead of this, without compression of course

Duende with X-EQ and X-Comp is a pretty cool "mastering" solution... they are great plug-ins... arguably, Ozone is designed more for the task, but Duende will also give you great mix tools as well if those are at all useful to you.

so if you wanted to choose between ozone & duende why just not get ozone and add the t-racks (group buy = 99$ for 6 plugins) and you should be REALLY happy and still cheaper than buying duende! t-racks stuff is SO much fun and worth it for mixing, coloring etc. (also for mastering if you need some extra tools like warm compression, clipping etc that ozone can't deliver!)

you would not regret it! look what you would get: group buy

p.s. 15 days left!
