@ Cutting engineers

Hi, can you suggest a good book about vinyl mastering and dubplates, that covers lathe prepartion, EQ stages, the differences of cutting speed/RPM output etc

I am very interested but there isn't a local cutter I could go sit in on.

Thanks

Joe

Not a cutting engineer, though I did read up on it while trying to make something somewhat useful come out of the vestax cutter (it didn't - most everything is wrong, most annoyingly the lack of feedback path on the cutter head). Anyway, these books are great:

DISK RECORDING VOL.1: GROOVE GEOMETRY AND THE RECORDING PROCESS edited by Stephen F. Temmer. Seventy-three papers describing the major contributions to the art of disk recording in the areas of groove geometry, cutterheads and lathes, styli and lacquers, pressings, and high-density disk technology.

DISK RECORDING VOL.2: DISK PLAYBACK AND TESTING edited by Stephen F. Temmer. Eighty-nine papers by experts in the audio field on the subjects of disk playback, disk pickups, tone arms and turntables, and quality control.
