More Before and After

Hi guys,

Your intrepid newbie lurker is at it again, doing more charity work in an effort to learn this crazy craft. As always, any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Like both hip-hop projects I've worked with, the doubled vocals arrived panned hard left and hard right - I brought them in to about 25% left 25% right. Should I bring them in even closer?

This is my first time using a de-esser - did I hit it? Is it too much, too little, or just right?

Also my first time using reverb on a mastering job - the track seemed to have almost no reverb, and the VSTi's all sounded extremely synthetic. I tend to add too much reverb, so I tweaked it until it sounded just right and then dropped a few dB off the sends. Does it sound good, or is it too much still?

Any other feedback, criticism, flames, discouraging remarks, encouraging remarks, job offers, pontifications, derailing comments, trolls, and other forms of internet communique are always appreciated.

Well, 9 folks have downloaded it and nobody has replied... if it were terrible, I would've had responses, so I'm hoping this means it's not bad. :P

I like the original a little better because it has a nicer crack with the claps, the background vocal has quite a bit of lows that should have been cut by the mixer. Some M/S surgery might be able to fix the boomy background vocal.

I actually have access to the vocal stems - since I uploaded this trial I put a high pass which took care of most of the pops.

As for the snare, I took it down on purpose - I thought it was too loud and distracting. Maybe I overdid it?

You really like the way the first track had the vocals coming out of the left speaker? That much has gotta be better in my mix

yes, why not use more space on left and right?! keep vocals more wide imo.
(+ one in center)

Maybe the center is what I was missing then - I think it sounds bizarre with the vocals panned so hard like that
