Single Speed Glass Cutting - Is the Difference Obvious?
Regarding Single Speed Glass cutting for the glass master at the replication plant - is the difference noticeable when compared to the masters cut faster? Anybody had the same project done both ways and compared the two?

At one time, 12-15 years ago, I made a test on this with a collaborating plant. It appeared to be discernable blind, at least if you believe four producer/engineers (including myself) who knew the product saying the same thing, that the 1X sounded better. But things have changed and I do believe this is highly dependent on:

---which plant

----which cutter and possibly which software

and more important:

---- what reproducer and/or DAC on the playback end

And it's become a very academic subject, there are very few plants who will cut at 1X speed anymore and they all will charge a severe premium to do so.
