The Killers - Day and Age

I was in my favorite music store the other day and picked up a CD of the album Day and Age by The Killers. I really like the album and it sounds like a good recording overall but the over compression and limiting really makes certain parts of the album hard to listen to even though they seemed to not over hype the highs; if anything they cut them a little bit for a more mid heavy sounding album overall.

I like the songs on this album but I'm at a point now that I'm tired of paying for a CD that is smashed so much in mastering. I was thinking that maybe some of the modern albums that are cut to vinyl might be the non hyper limited alternatives to enjoying new music. What are your thoughts on this? Do most modern albums sound better on vinyl because of the physical limitations of the medium that prevent it from being smashed to zero?

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions on the subject.

Cheers,

bcg

My opinion is that most of the albums sound best on DVD . That is, if there is one. CDs? There's no hope for CDs I'm afraid... each and every one I bought in the last few years is pure garbage if you ask me, except for the classic ones. I don't like jazz, though :/.

Cheers!

I'll have to check and see if this album is on DVD. Do you find that most modern DVD albums aren't smashed for loudness? Also, I'm more interested in stereo albums as opposed to 5.1
