That's some brilliant indie marketing right there...recall your own cd?

From Dinosaur Jr. ->

Quote:
Dear Dinosaur Jr. Fans,
Please note that on the European CD version of the Farm album there is an audio problem. This occurred while duplicating the original master in a duplication studio. The problem occurred when the duplicate was produced, as the software program used for this duplication ‘doubled’ the sound layers. This resulted in a 3dB increase in the overall sound volume.
How the f did that happen??? Seriously - I'm asking this as someone who has been a production manager at both a CD pressing facility and who also ran their own CD-R duplication house in the past - it just doesn't make any sense. Sounds much more likely someone "rebaked" the provided master in something like iTunes.

Best regards,
Steve Berson

That's a helluva excuse for putting a 3db boost on the manufacturer's lap!

I'm also curious to know what software does an automatic "doubling of sound layers."

Also, they dup their CDs? They're not replicated? (as in the difference between a CD-R copier and the process of stamping CDs in replicating).

I like Dinosaur Jr. though, they had this version of The Cure's Just Like Heaven that I liked a lot.

No, from memory

6dB = 2x pressure
3dB = 2x power

So 6dB = 2x SPL.

Aye... Now it's only 6dB louder than it should be, not 12.

(or 9 :D )
