To the OP: helping the groove / swing / bounce along a bit with compression isn't that uncommon (at least not here), but certainly not to the extent that most dance productions do it these days. That happens very much at mixing. And the emphasis in mastering would be on gently enhancing or emphasizing the groove, if the feel of the song benefits from it, but not creating one.

That's what i thought at first too! But I think it's a different Red One, he's produced New Kids on the Block, Enrique Iglesias, to name a few RedOne - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fairly common here, it comes through with the gluing process. I often get tracks coming in a bit flat rhythmically but once some stereo buss comp is applied the kick and snare lock together better and this can certainly affect the swing and groove.
