The L2 was designed with the only part that gets hot (5V regulator) right next to the only part that is very sensitive to heat (filter cap) so eventually all of them needed service.

I never needed to open it up but that makes perfect sense!
So that filter cap just dries out N' fails over time right?
That's a bad layout for sure!

How hot does that regulator get?
You could maybe replace the cap with a high temp version.

Allow me to thank Andy (who also posted earlier in this thread) from here in Toronto who has been generously offering wise advice as far as analog vs digital vs combination limiting.

I just felt he deserved public recognition for his selfless help and wisdom generated for years of success as a mastering engineer in Toronto.

Thanks Andy!!

Today a test was done comparing L2 to PL2 to PSP Xenon plug-in.

Each did about 2.5 dbs of limiting to the same file - each provided it's own make-up gain such that the end result had the same level (average RMS indicated within 0.05 db)

The L2 sounded a bit darker than the others.

The PL2 - sounded as though it would work better if being used even less.

The PSP Xenon plug sounded lovely.

So I'm back to using digital limiting and saving some hard earned $$$, just bought a pair of Gefell M200s so I could use to save a few $$.

Did double blind testing - always enjoyed the PSP.

**I did another test master using a bit of both the PL@ and PSP which sounded lovely but honestly not really any different from the PSP only - or maybe just barely.

I can see a real use for the PL2 - ensures no clipping, is ultra transparent - and is of excellent build quality. The pain of not having it is always having to run mixes with as much analog gain as possible pre Crane Song converters but hoping to max at -1 - the PL2 would allow me to never have to worry - but this little inconvenience is not worth the price for me.

Now to compare PSP with others (as long as they have demos online - I bought an i-loc - time to play around now)

Perhaps using a bit of two different limiters would work best? I love blind tests on multiple sources - really teaches me a lot.
