Thread Starter Verified Member | Eclipse language code error is BACK.
As happened to another poster recently, I had troubles with CD-text on a ddp master. The plant rejected a ddp image because Eclipse reported a "bad language code in cd-text" error. (Sadie, Cube-Tech and Sonoris deem the DDP to be conforming to spec.) After talking to the engineer at the plant, it appears that (I thought this was fixed at some point a while back) newer Eclipse versions DO require a language code if any special symbols (seemingly includes kommas, apostrophes, brackets, dashes, etc) are used. I talked to Eclipse since none of my DAWs has an ability to set language code for cd-text by they could not instruct me on how to o that without their CD-Text-Editor. Can someone shed some light on the issue? - is there a way for me to view and/or set the language code with some editor? - is it known when eclipse will need cd-text language code to be set? (What characters are to be avoided)? - is it known which eclipse versions do that (and which of the major plants use which versions)? - Does anyone know why on earth it is required? Does ANY authoring system set this language code by default (or at all)? |

Yep - That was the same error I got from the plant. Talked to a guy there, and he said he thinks it might be because they are running a new beta of Eclipse, and this just started popping up. We eventually signed off on the masters as is, but I'm not sure I'd use CD-Text on the next project to avoid the error and subsequent delays. Since there is no place to change the 'language code' in either PMCD / Soundblade, or even Waveburner, sounds like something that needs to be addressed on Eclipse's end. - Kent |

| Cd-Text editor
Try this old but free CD-Text editor by Takabin: Incomplete CD-TEXT EDITOR(Windows95/98/Me / ƒ†[ƒeƒBƒŠƒeƒB) Both software and readme are also in English so don't panic from all those japanese fonts:-) Precompiled CD-Text (.CDT) export should be compatible with Eclipse CDTEXT.BIN format so rename the file and try if it works. But there is no guarantee that all will work in all cases. It is an old app and incomplete!! But sometimes it is very helpful (format conversions etc.) |

I reckon it's best to just tell the artist, label etc, that the plants won't accept anything but standard text! These software venders are simply just not communicating with each other with regards to CD text. If three different DAW's are deeming the DDP's to be correct, what else can ya do? As long as the IRSC codes make it through the glass master process, then at least the artists still get their royalties! |

I tried it with no luck though, opening the renamed cd-text.bin files didn't show any information (no error, but no content either). Are there any more editors out there? I looked at the file in a hex editor but the result looked mostly cryptic.

Try "File" -> "Read pre-compiled CD-TEXT(.CDT)" It should work for renamed file (BIN to CDT), but it should be possible to directly "read" also a BIN file. I can read CDTEXT.BIN files in Takabin's editor this way and then the same files are possible to read in Eclipse with no errors.

"Read pre-compiled CD-TEXT(.CDT)" is what I did, but the editor then shows me no tracks. When I resave to txt, The .txt shows the album identifiers (artist and title), but no info for the tracks. There seems to be some incompatibility there.

Aha... just had an informative phone call. Cube-tech are on the case and they had the following info: It's confirmed that since v5.1, Eclipse is giving an error when language code for CD-text is left undefined. Since no authoring program lets you set CD-text language, most applications leave it undefined. So it seems it has nothing to do with particular digits used but universally applies to language code being set. The only solution (assuming that Eclipse aren't going to address this) is that the authoring software sets language code to some language (english, for example). Cube-tech / Wavelab DDP users can get an upgrade to sort the incompatibility out (it is in beta stadium at the moment). Someone mentioned that there's an update from Sonic too. Sonoris DDP creator sets the language to english as default, i.e. is safe with regards to the bug. No idea about other DAWs. I have heard that there is a utility by Sony that displays CD-text, including the language set. That way, one can at least check beforehand whether the DDP will pass Eclipse 5.2 (at least with regards to language code). In my very recent experience (Europe only), the error is currently generated at Universal's pressing plant but not at Sony or Optimal Media. Don't know about the others. Funny that Eclipse seemed to know nothing about this and were not able (or willing) to provide a solution or pointers. I can't imagine that change in cd-text conformity rules / preferences (in 2009!) to have been introduced on purpose; sounds like a bug to me... |
