Error at CD Duplication plant caused by PMCD?

I just finished mastering a project I produced, and this was my first project I mastered using PMCD. Along with a few others, I recently abandoned Waveburner.

I got this error message from the CD duplication plant that I cannon find any information on, and was wondering if any of you had experience with it:

"Bad Language Error" from Eclipse: CD-Text data contains a block with a Language code value of 0. The language code tells the CD player the language in which CD-Text will be displayed. This problem is caused by the utility that created the original CD-Text data.

I've searched Sonic's site, can't reach anyone by phone, and couldn't find information about it on the web. The also seems to be no field for this in PMCD. Have any of you with much more PMCD experience seen this issue?

Thanks SO much,

- Kent

You encoded the master with CD Text?

Different CD plants have different 'thresholds' for Eclipse warnings and error reports. If you can verify that the text is present and readable on a known/reference playback device I'd ask to talk to the plant's engineer someone in quality control there.

Is adding presence the same as subtracting absence?

From what I remember (and the plant guys among us can probably get the details better on this one), the older versions of Eclipse software (or firmware) had trouble with some versions of CD-Text. Unfortunately, there was (is) disagreement with exactly how to implement it since it's an add-on that wasn't part of the original red book spec. I thought I remembered Eclipse updating to reflect the variation so this error didn't happen anymore. Maybe this plant doesn't have the latest rev installed? There are multitudes of CD-Text encoded titles out there originated from Sonic. There are bunches from my system alone (though sB, not PMCD) and I've never had a rejection. Sorry for the half-remembered scoop here. Hopefully somebody with a better memory will elaborate.

Guys,

Thanks for the info. Spoke to James @ Sonic, and sounds like they are using an old version of Eclipse, using my DDP set. I told the duplication plant to just use the Master PMCD I sent instead of the DDP, and I should be fine.

Jay is spot on, we had several rejects in the past by the plant I used and it was always a CD-Text master. All I do it's tell them to go with that master anayway. Until now, nobody has called to say the copies don't work except the occasional guy who wants to see the text on his unsupported ITTS CD player .

What version of sB did you use to apply CD text to those titles?
Just curious.
