That is awesome! That will be worth waiting for. I have heard from many in this forum and other places as well that Wavelab is one of the best software apps for mastering. Thanks for the cool news!

That's good news for us Mac-Heads... more professional tools for mastering.

Didn't see any mention of Mac or OSX on the WaveLab link, can you verify this?

We are currently working on a Mac version of WaveLab.
There isn't an official release date yet though.

Clearly the inadequacies of Apple WaveBummer affords a royal opportunity for someone to move in and clean up - Steinberg have finally seen the light!

As long as it's intuitive, stable, does DVD-A authoring and includes a reasonable mastering EQ, limiter and good dither they will likely get my money; this could mean a welcome back to my Mac for Steinberg after nearly 20 years absence!

I think the main problem for a while was that the coding etc for wavelab was done by one guy - I think there is a team now but thats why the transition took ages...that being said wavelab and sequoia is why I went bought a PC. Wavelab rocks

I'm soooo happy to hear this.
Still using WB , while keep on struggling with the demo of SB and PMCD. I can't help it but their GUI feels sooooo goddamn unnatural and old school difficult.

Bring it on !!!

That is great news!
I will have to get that when it comes out for sure.

I keep on at the guys at prism to get Sadie working on OSX but they say its probably not gonna happen any time soon.

PG the author of Wavelab has been pretty tight lipped about version 7 but says he is doing a rewrite of the code. He has been pretty vehement in the past about NOT porting WL over to the Mac but then said recently that he might reconsider. The page in the OP post leads to information on WL 6 which has been out for a while. Nothing much on the WL/Cubase forum except everyone asking when it will happen and there seems to be a lot of WL users out there that would purchase it in a heartbeat. Interesting stuff. I too hope it comes out for the MAC and soon.

now if only we could get Magix to port Sequoia & Algorithmix to port their plugs to OSX we would be set!

Good to hear this about Wavelab though... it's been a long time coming.

Ditto!
By far the best mastering DAW in my opinion!
They may have trouble with Sequoia on OSX because it can run different regions at different sample rates.
I heard that's not possible on OSX.
A real shame!

The danger for all the other Mac "mastering" apps is that most users would switch to Wavelab without so much as a second thought, if it were to become available.

If I were the principals of Sonic, Bias, Audio File, etc.......I'd have taken very strong notice of Lagerfeldt's first post in this thread regarding a Wavelab port to the Mac for the classic wake up call that it is.

It's definitely something to be concerned about - but competition drives innovation - and speaking personally, I wouldn't switch from my happy Peak/Wave Editor combo without some serious "second thoughts."

I have heard very good things about Wavelab - I have never used it. And if I'm honest, I'm quite pleased with version 6 of Peak Pro, it does what I need it to do and I can't really imagine that my life would be that far improved with Wavelab.

(No, I'm not a pro mastering engineer either, but I do use the aforementioned tools on a day-to-day basis in my professional life) ...

It will probably be as buggy to begin with as every other Mac mastering DAW!
I really hope I'm wrong though!
It will take em a while to nail OSX.

It only makes sense that Yamaha (who now owns Steinberg) would make all of the software thier aquire to be cross platform. It makes the software much more marketable. And the software doesn't require alot of horsepower (I ran wavelab on a intel pentium III 800 MHZ with no problems).

after all, the intel based macs is just a pc inside with a serial number in its bios that the osx installer looks for and installs the operating system. So, it is easier to port because the machine code doesn't have to be re-written, according to a programmer friend of mine.

He also told me that the core of the operating system is more like linux with a fancy graphic user interface.

oops.. That's a bit too easy..
Machine-code is never written by the coders nowadays.
The project has still to be ported to another platform. Major task.
The core of MacOS X is actually the Darwin kernel and the (Unix)BSD-subsystem

ontopic again, I would upgrade to WL/Mac in a heartbeat!
No more bootcamp..

I ran WL in Parallels just fine after making the switch, eventually I gave got sick of seeing XP and moved over to Wave Editor. Still, I've used WL far more than any other app, so this is very interesting...

I bought Peak 3 le back in the day, when I first started using macs, it's by far the most buggy program that I've ever used, spark and audacity being close seconds.

I was hoping that Bias would come out with something close, but Wavelab is about 10 years ahead in terms of usability and interface. version 3's montage killed the game with WAVELAB. I've mastered hundreds of CD's with wavelab and lately had to resort to Waveburner. If they put an editor in Waveburner, they would have something close, but not quite! Good luck Jason,

Jason

Peak has always been an overhyped, bloated, buggy, overpriced piece of garbage. And what makes me laugh even harder about the subject -- is that their employees troll this website and are more concerned about people leaving bad reviews of the product as opposed to actually making a usable and reasonably priced, stable piece of software.

Believe it or not, Steve from Bias tried to silence me in PMs quite some time ago on this forum because I was vocal about not liking peak. I've also heard from many other users that bias silenced any condescending talk of their product on their website forums and others. Just on that principle alone I will never give these jerks my money.

2-track editors are so overrated -- get a DAW, a copy of Weiss Saracon, a program that supports DDP and say goodbye to the tyranny of these overrated 2-track editors.

FWIW -- I am looking forward to at least giving Wavelab on the Mac a go. Can't be any worse than my experiences with peak or PMCD dfegad
