What AMP and Sub for Wilson CUB's ?

Hi,

I've recently bought a pair of Wilson CUB's and I'm looking for the right amp to go with them, I'm looking for the fastest and flattest amp i can put my hands on.. a true non coloration flat from bottom to top. right now I'm using an Adcom 545 which give me a good reference but I'm sure there is something much better out there for this speaker's caliber..
A 100W amp is enough to drive the CUB's. they don't much amplification at all.
The Wilson CUB's has a pair of 6.5" woofers and a tweeter so it needs a sub but my room is pretty small so a 8-10" sub will do, I'm looking for the fastest peak response sub i can get, the tightest the bass and the most defined bass pitch are my main goals, only for hearing what's going on below 70Hz when something really going on there, I'm not looking to iimpress clients..

I do mostly mixing but some mastering as well.

Thank you all !

Hi TanTan,

I think you should go to a local Hifi-shop and definitely try some amplifiers on the Wilson speakers. There are so many fine amplifiers for sale these days so i can imagine that u need some pointers.

For 'Saint of Sound' mastering studios we tried a few amplifiers on the Dunlavy SC-IV speakers (you can read about it here: Amp heaven). I will give you my favorites for the Wilson Audio speakers. I heard some Wilson Audio speakers and a lot amplifiers when i worked in a dutch hifi-store and had a lot chance to try a lot of amps and speakers and listen how they match.

Cello, Ayre, Spectral will match great and you should try out the new Hypex UcD700 (MM-Audio or Hexateq).

About the sub, you should try JL Audio. I think Bob Katz can tell u more about those subs.

Good luck!

Thanks ! the only amp from your list I've found here in Israel is the Hypex UCD180.

Is there a sound difference between the Hypex UCD700 and the UCD180 or is it just the output ? the Wilsons really don't need more than a 100W per side so it can be a good match if it has the sound of the UCD700..
