Thread Starter | Something like Aphex 204?
What's a good professional option for an effect similar to the Aphex 204 Aural Exciter? I like the concept of using a piece of outboard gear to get the sound fattened up, but just looking at the 204 I feel like it might not be appropriate for a full on mastering session. What would you guys suggest for achieving this during mastering?

As far as plugins go, crysonic Spectralive NXT is quite similar. Also, it is stereo-coherent unlike the 204 so you will get harmonic alignments between channels as well, which in many cases makes the haas effect more defined and clear, without increasing any delay length or the side levels. Here's a setting I start with sometimes: http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8...tralivenxt.jpg When the Vitality knob gets up to 50, you should have pretty close to average level as input. Less or more process, and adjust the Mix knob (the one on the far right) to compensate if needed. Among all of the effects of "exciter" type... I find NXT usually gives me the most processing in time/sync domain before the EQ domain starts to become too much. Just the same, I rarely if ever use it. |
