Burned Master disc with 32float files ??

Hey guys just wanted some input thoughts on how this happened and if anyone else has done this . I tracked a project at 32 float in cubase , mixed and mastered it in Cubase . I did'nt use dither so it was mixed to a 32 bitfp file at 44k - I then burned the cd using the 32 FP song files and CD architech burned it no prob . If just did the test with a 24 bit file as well and it burned it too ! I presume CD arch is dithering it or truncating it to 16 bits ? I then imported the burned cd song back in comparred it to the original 32 float file . The imported file from the cd was then at 16 bits . There was a subtle difference in sound . The original 32 float was just a touch more wider thicker etc . I mean just a micro amount . But I was impressed the 16 bit file sounded great still - no harshness at all . I did this by accident as i forgot to dither the song down to 16 bits and just burnt it . Thanks

Hi, pretty sure that the cd is 16bit and because you didnt dither down to 16bit wav it would of just truncated it when burned.

Best to dither to 16bit first then burn the disc. thumbsup

Hello!

CD architect applies a dither plug to the master bus if the data is edited in any way, or the source file is deeper than 16 bit. Had a look at it now and it defaulted to "half rectangular" dither. This is, IIRC, not a "proper dither" in that the noise floor is signal dependent. It trades off some noise floor for a higher level of truncation distortion. You might like it better with some of the other dither options available.

Cheers,

Andreas
