what is the difference between these two? if you already have the Sonnox, do you need the PSP?

You definitely don't need the PSP, even if you don't have the Sonnox. Sonnox is a great tool though. If the Vintagewarmer makes your mix sound better, take it off again, ... and keep mixing a bit longer |

There is a difference for sure. I loved V. Warmer at the beginning but now considering it as a "beware and think before use" - still beautiful, but not for my output Id say now after I know bit more. ...to get shiny crispyness on some channels - yes but not extra widely and using it with a real purpose.. Sonnox - well - no question. Unbeatable all of it.The Warmth in Dynamics is great for vocs Id say. Bringin it out.. |

Wow! I'm shocked, no one likes the PSP Vintage Warmer 2? I just got the thing and now I'm hearing such negative things about the PSP products.. |

VW does bring out artifacts a lot considering what it also adds to the source. Its probably the best tool to check mixes before sending to mastering and also good with agressive tracks on mixes like guitars or drums.

I use both. Each one is great for certain things. Neither one are great for everything. Just my personal opinion.

![]() My feelings exactly! EDIT - this is in a mastering context btw! Good for smashing drums etc. But not your mastering chain. Not at all

If you use the Sonnox 'Warmth' function (which is supposed to simulate a tube microphone sonic signature) be SURE to take a break and come back to it later. Even the next day. You'd be surprised how your ears adapt to and crave it. Then when you come back for a fresh listen you go, "Ugh! What the hell is that doing on there?..." A tiny bit goes a LOOOONG way. And off is sometimes better. I rarely if ever use it, and then only when something was poorly recorded. I tried the PSP plugin-in and it sounded funny to my ears. I would not use these in Mastering (unless it is all I had and there is no budget to go to a dedicated house) The Cranesong Phoenix on the other hand..................THAT is on every mix I do.
