Just got mine 2 days ago.Knobs are a little hard to turn but
you get used to them soon.
Regarding the sound I i've just tried few settings especially on
bottom and high frequencies to check how much the improvements
told on the web site were real.
My first impression based on just few hours of working on the unit is certainly
more than satisfactory.

MEA-2 is definitly a very good Eq, can't stop using it since one year I get this wonderful gear, clean, accurate, so musical with gentle curve (the shelve!) and great "air"...but with old knobs

From the prism website.....

2008 Update

For 2008, the Maselec MEA-2 has had an evolutionary update with subtle performance enhancements while retaining the character of the original. The changes are:

New exterior design with custom designed metal knobs and thicker front panel
Faster amplifiers with wider bandwidth
Improved low frequency EQ filters
The individual EQ sections are completely switched off when the gain controls are set to 0dB
Lower noise and wider dynamic range
New output amplifiers with improved high frequency performance
Full bypass when the power is turned off

Switching off the individual EQ sections when gain is 0db should make quite a difference to this unit.

Doesn't look like the existing units can be upgraded though, shame.

I actually find the sound of the MEA-2 (older, gray version) quite useful when all eq knobs are a zero but the unit is "in". It seems to impart a suble "sheen" to the sound.

For the difference in cost to sell my unit and buy new one, I have very little interest! My gray baby works extremely well!
