Thread Starter | deleting instruments (in the mix)
Hi, although this might have come up before, I`m wondering whether you could help me out on this one: Finished a mix, and don`t like the sound of a specific instrument (guitar) anymore. It`s a single-note-hook-line in a fairly busy arrangement, with plenty of effect on it, and, after having not listened for a while, I whish I had done it without that contribution. I can`t get any more specific on that- do you have comparable experiences, and tried tools like reNOVAtor or stuff like that? Grateful for replies, ec |

IMO/E nothing will remove it completely. Maybe if it's panned hard one way or the other, you might. The same if it's in the center. Even if you can manage to remove it though, you may still hear it in the background - the result of left over reverb or delays across the mid and highs in the mix. When there is no way to go back to the mix to edit a track part out, I edit the mix itself. You can make a creative edit and get rid of that guitar section that you don't like anymore. Try that, maybe the arrangement will allow it. Regards,

Verified Member | If it's not possible to copy or cut sections to get rid of that guitar, a spectral editor like renovator or similar will likely be the most effective but also most time consuming option. It _can_ sometimes work reasonably well to get elements down in perceived level considerably. Whether that will be what you'd call "deleted" is very hard to say without trying it, as it depends very much on the source material. If you upload a section with that guitar on, I can have a quick try and see how low the guitar can be gotten that way.

do you still have the original guitar track? maybe try lining it up and flipping the phase. mix it in and see if it will remove enough of it from the mix. it may vary depending on the compression on the mix, but just might work. k |

Too bad the mix is busy and you used many effects. Otherwise you perhaps could have tried the new Melodyne... It's said to be capable splitting polyphonic signals into single notes... I haven't tried it myself yet, anyone did? Quote:
