From that site:
Quote:
How does the undigitize process work? That information is proprietary - but we can tell you that we do not use reverb and EQ, or CD copying and disc treatments, like others that have attempted our goals prior to us.
Are they re-inventing the wheels of audio on here?

from the website:

*Audio samples are Apple Lossless encoded tracks, which while of a high quality, we have found to fall short of the original uncompressed tracks, in our experience.

another clear example of how audiophiles are "miles away"
from the real audio world...

let them spend tons of bucks on their high end cables...

all victims of the placebo effect

Another nice one from their faq list:
"we have found that black CD-Rs best capture the qualities of analog"

I still prefer the green marker along the edge

Very true fradoca. You misspelled audiofools though
Some knowledgeable people on this forum considers themselves audiophiles, but they don't have a wooden knob on their monitoring controller - only audiofools can hear that sort of tweaks...

That's because it sounds more like vinyl, right?

"Norah Jones' Come Away With Me is an all analog recording, except for likely digital reverb."

This was the first statement I saw, that site is a goldmine. Somebody save it quickly!

well i consider myself a sort of audiophile...and the only tweak
i did was the change of the stock cable of my sennheiser hd 600
with a much better one.But i did this only because the stock
cable was the weakest part in the listening chain...
and many people can confirm this...
I switched back and forth at least five times between the
stock cable and the new one before making a firm statement
about the improved sound coming through the hd 600.
No placebo effect.
But i don't understand people who pay 2000 bucks for a pair of cables...
or people who say that black cdrs sound more analog...

I bet they use a vitalizer or some similar device. There really should be
a law against this.

ah macc you know i'm telling you nothing but the "truth"
by the way i think the process is done with emm labs dsd converters...
don't ask me if they do a pcm to dsd and back to pcm conversion
upsampling the signal to dsd 2.8224 mhz....it could be this way...

We should find 50 members of this forum to donate $1 each so we can hear what they might do...

On second thought, let's not encourage them...

Yeah...but...they promised they didn't use any EQ. Why would the internets lie?

Because it's a warm, fuzzy, analog sounding lie...

sorry , but I'm already really tempted to try it... Who knows, whatever they do might be a really cool touch. Oh bugger, now they'll announce a $500 version for 24-bit CD master treatment next. This is like quicksand...

I did some shopping today, and it go me thinking:

It's kinda funny...in the past week, I've spent about $1000 on my home hi-fi rig. And I've got another $1500 or so to go before I'm up-and-running. I plan on making a cartridge, platter, and possibly even tonearm upgrade over the course of this year, which will, all told, set me back at least another $500-1000. Obviously, at those prices, I'm not buying the absolute top-of-the-line, but I can assure you, my humble rig sounds KICK ASS by most standards, even in my poorly-treated (my girlfriend just doesn't see the same beauty in diffusors I see) living room. So, after spending around $3000 on playback gadgetry, I'll be able to go to the local record store and buy LPs for anywhere from $1 to $30, enjoy them to damn near their fullest extent, and STILL spend less than it would cost to "Un-Digitize" even a tiny fraction of my CD collection.

This service is nonsense. Any serious listener - with a serious music collection and the dough to spend on hi-fi luxuries - knows to buy a good turntable and listen to vinyl. Or at the least owns a CD player or third-party DAC that SMOKES whatever voodoo this company is doing...I just don't get it. Who is this service marketed towards?!?

They have a few hilarious statements in the FAQs:

Quote:
As of this moment, we are only offering our services for commercially released CDs.
So they won't apply their process to a CD that has not been commercially released?

Quote:
We are currently only providing our services on CDs from major record labels, and a few smaller labels (such as Chesky and Telarc), that follow Red Book CD specifications.
How could the label on which a CD is released possibly make any difference to the result of their process?

Quote:
The disc/s sent in must be the original, as copies will not be accepted.
What nonsense!

Here is the best one of all, in anticipation of the complaints they will get from their customers:

Quote:
Should we feel it is necessary, we will have informed you of the reasoning of your ban. If not, it is likely due to your character in some nature. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

I just sent them the following message:

Quote:
I am curious about your service and would very much like to hear an example of your work. Please post a before and after on your website. I think it might help you get more business if people could hear what a difference you could make for their listening pleasure.
