prism sound DA2 V.S ADA8XR DAC

Some eng. tell me that the sound quality of prism sound DA2 better than ADA-8XR wich produce more netural, accurate,3D sound although the spec. is not as good as ADA8XR ? Is it true?

Anyone know why prism sound DAC more expensive than competitor (e.g. EMM Labs , DAD AX24 , DCS 955 and weiss DAC)?

Is it better than competitor?

Internet chit chat on comparing high end converters (even different models from the same company) is fairly useless as the differences are often subtle and can not be appreciated unless you actually are the one to hear them in person in a setup where you can actually do a decent a/b.

Best answer to your question is:
get a demo from a Prism distributor, and then post back hear on what you think.

And knowing GS - someone else will post back with an exact opposite response.

The DA2 will not outperform the ADA8-XR. The reason why Prism is more expensive is to be sought in its better platform as I explained a post earlier. The other converters are built to last a certain technological era. If tomorrow's input/output ports change your converter will no longer interface with it. A prism is basically an extendable platform due to its modular approach. You buy it once and you use it until you're deaf, dead, or until anyone sees the need to go above 24bit, 192kHz (which would be totally absurd given the fact that 24bits provide for a dynamic range of 144dB and 192kHz is already totally ridiculous except when you're having stock in Hard Disk manufacturers!)

Even if you have a FireWire interface, expect that the next generation of FireWire computers will someday have ports that run too fast for your current FireWire interface. You cannot upgrade your Mytec as far as I know but you can do it with your prism.

For what it's worth the DA2 doesn't operate at 192k - that's the biggest difference. The fact is, I don't think anyone on the planet could hear the difference between a DA2, ADA8XR, Weiss, Lavry or any of the high end DACs in a blind listening test. It comes down to money and features. If you are going to spend 6k on a two channel converter you will also need a high end monitor system and actuate room acoustics to appreciate your investment.
