So I bought Metallica on vinyl, thinking it would be better. :)

After reading the horror stories of the smashed sound on the cd. I thaught maybe the vinyl (records for the young kids) would be mixed and mastered better. Hell no !!!! Its the same as the cd. Dont waist your money.

Hot damn! Well, without wishing to get into a flame war, I was put in mind of that old producer's saying about being able to polish a diamond but not a tu*d

Thanks, though - Was considering the vinyl route for the helluvit.

But I'd rather save the $20 for the helluvit also...

It's the Mix Master

I think the consensus has been that the "destruction" done to the Metallica project was done in the mixing stage and effected the stereo master.

The mastering engineer received clipped mixes to work with. Some have said that the Guitar Hero version doesn't have the problems. That version is supposedly based on stems from the original mix session. Stems that were unaffected by whatever processing was put on the 2 mix.

I think every stereo version is going to be affected by the original mix processing.

For what it's worth.

Who woulda thunk it... Maybe Axl heard all the complaints about Metallica and chose a different path for "Chinese Democracy".

I also read the Guitar Hero version was alot better. Thats what I based my decision on getting the vinyl. Didnt work that way. Maybe I try the Guitar Hero route. My kids play it alot, so its not waisted money.

i haven't heard the proper cd, but the guitar hero version is indeed quite dynamic and not smashed at all.
