AE Wave Editor - a fully professional mastering programme ?

I am quite upset that a programme like Samplitude (even in its so called "mastering version" does not provide DDP export (quite essential thing today, I think). Magix people say: if you want DDP, pay 1500 EUR extra and buy Sequoia. Now - Wave Editor provides bioth DDP export and import (apart from many other great functions) - all that for $ 79 (!!). I think Magix people should awake a bit.

The question remains whether Wave editor can be considered as a fully reliable and profesional programme that can deliver standard DDP images for production, in the same way as much more expensive programmes ?

Hi Ivo

WE is great at what it does and is getting better all the time. AE also have some of the the most helpful and thorough tech support I've come across.

I think it would be fair to say it is a fully professional audio utility program. However as much as I like WE and have high hopes for its future it is not yet a fully professional mastering program. For example it's a bit of a mission to change the length of the gap between two songs so it's not exactly quick for compiling. AE have said they plan to address this and other mastering related requirements in future updates. In the meantime I think it's more than worth its price for its SRC and its ability to read as well as write DDPs.

Pretty much agree with Luke, it's very very close, but not entirely there yet. Works for some things, but I still get a lot of random crashes (though I use the app a ton too). Nothing critical has been lost yet however, just requires a restart. The only real issues I have in terms of workflow are as Luke said, compiling CD quickly. WE let's you get very detailed about the CD layout, but that detail comes at the price of things taking longer than other apps in this regard. There's been some suggestions for fixes to these on their forums, so I have no doubt we'll see improvements soon. As mentioned, Audiofile are extremely responsive to their customer, and very fix to fix any bugs that come up, which is a major reason I'm still putting up with the odd bug here and there that I run into.

I wouldeneed it only for one single thing: to import cue/wav image and to export it to DDP. Would it work reliably for that ?

I process in a separate DAW (better for my workflow), then import the .wav files into AE for sequencing, fades and export to DDP, works like a charm!

I have to agree with the customer support comment, they work very well with customers, implementing, refining and developing their products. The sample manager application is also very handy.

I would prefer to do everything in Samplitude and just to import the resulting cue/wav there for DDP export, I hope it will work without a problem

AE does have a demo mode, so check it out if it works for you before you buy it. Demo mode disables saves and won´t let you export the DDP however. It will let you see if it will fit into your workflow and be the tool you need it to be.

Not sure if it can import the cue/wav, never tried.
