Thread Starter Verified Member | Suggestions for a stereo AES/EBU soundcard?
I'm looking to add another comp' to the studio for editing. I'll need stereo AES/EBU in/out. I guess the choices are RME or Lynx, although i find both company's product ranges a bit confusing (and the Lynx site isn't working right now anyway) Does anyone have any good experience with a stereo card from either of these? I'll be wanting asio drivers and a pci or pci-e card. Thanks! ...............D

We use both and they are GREAT! I like them because they just work day in and day out and we don't have problems with either one. I don't think you could make a mistake with either one.

D. why not take the same as in the main studio, make it a kind off back-up system, if in any-case your main systems fails ... you'll be up and running in no-time. just my thought ...

I have a Lynx Two which has a single AES in and out. Used it as main converters for years, now I got a Crane Song HEDD for the processing loop. I plan on buying a RME AES32 real soon when I'll be buying a proper monitoring DAC. Why the change? Well, frankly, while Lynx software is stabile and works (apart from one firmware update that didn't work for me), I think the general useability is just too tricky. I usually just can't wrap my brain around the Lynx way of doing things. So I'll be trying the RME this time. It's a pity I don't have the Lynx to sell right at this moment, I could've sold it to you.

Lynx AES16 here. No issues, great card. Almost wish I would've grabbed the AES16SRC though... Not that I'd use the card's SRC, but I could see some "everyday" situations where it would come in handy.

I run both of these cards in the same computer. by using these older drivers I use asio with the aes-32 & have no conflict of using multible sample rates on each card. these older drivers are archived on rme's site. RME AES-32 Driver version 2.5.2.1 RME HDSP 9632 Driver version 2.8.3.1 Ed |

Lynx One and L-22. Lynx One using WDM drivers > ADC > analog > DAC > into L-22 using ASIO drivers. I think the AES 16 is the way to go, though. Richard ps - The studio looks amazing!

Sek'D used to make an excellent 2 channel AES IO card. I now only see an 8 channel in the offering, but I know that there must be some of those older cards floating around.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think i might just have to bite the bullet and get another AES32 and AES16, because there doesn't seem to be anything in the 300 euro price range as i hoped (so i might as well pay the extra and have back-up cards) |

Maybe you should check this one as well: RME: HDSPe AES HDSPe AES from RME... We found the RME products very stable and reliable in terms of drivers, specifications,... Arne

RME HDSPe AES is great. I was also for search for a good AES/EBU card before some months... Well I'm glad that I took the RME. It works just awesome. Every penny worth. |

Verified Member | Yep it's a nice one .. also the BOB-32 is a great option for the AES32 .. and don't forget about the digicheck software ... that saves you serious money on some expensive metering.

that seems to be a bit overkill, but the Weiss DAC2 fits the bill so to say...

We are using the RME AES 32 in both PCI and PCIe versions, as well as some older stereo AES cards (I believe they also has ADAT which we don't use). They all work great. |
