You'll probably notice that most use Plextor burners, most of which specific models are no longer available (but you might find a few NOS models here and there or the PWP2 in some countries), Tayio Yuden stock, and whatever software they like the most.

Are you simply looking for an authoring program? A complete system? Knowing your budget would help...

It's a pretty big question, which could have a very simple or incredibly complex answer.

I work with an old Plextor cdr burner {9 years now} and record all my masters at 4X. I also use Tayo Yuden media. This is how I make my CD-R masters. I also assume that's what you meant by 'high quality Cd master'.

Regards,

Regards,
For the last couple of years 16x seemed to be the better choice / lower error rate compared to 4x with current batches of Tayo Yuden. Actually it's even a little lower now burning 16x than it was 4 years ago burning 4x...

+1 for the classic plextor drives with Tayo cdr. Sometimes we burn on Apogee Gold as well. The just find the appropriate burn speed by checking the medium for errors. It CAN be 16x but we -for example- still use 4x as well... So get a good writer and professional CD-Rs to get started...

Agreed that in all my tests 16x seems to be the optimum rate with my Plextor Premium & 760A burners with Taiyo Yuden silver/blue ink jet printable 52x compatible discs. This is fortunate as it definitely saves some time over burning at the slower rates as well.

Again - it should be repeated that people should be aware that none of the current Plextors (with the one exception of the Premium 2) i.e. the 2xx and 8xx lines - are made directly by Plextor but instead are just rebranded drives. As such they are not compatible with Plextor Plextools Pro's Q-check BLER testing utility (which is one of the big advantages of the Plextor Premium line). afaik the Q-check compatible drives are the Premium, Premium2, along with the 712, 716, 755 and 760 combo drives.

fwiw - some NOS Plextor Premium line burners are still available at Saitech Online - Computer Laptop Notebook Hardware Software IT Parts - I've gotten good service from them recently in acquiring some spares. The Premium 2 is still available from Plextor in Europe.

Best regards,
