Yeah, seems like we have a winner: Gearslutz > G14 > Gearslutz = Premature Ejaculation

I'd be tempted to try it out in my quest for the ultimate air EQ.

It's supposed to be great, it's very reasonably priced... but I just don't have a 3 unit rack space available. Bummer.

I've not had the luxury of trying lots of high end eq, but it really sounds very very natural (all over the spectrum) to me. The air's lovely.

Getting a handle on using this wonderful eq now. Sometimes you feel like it is contributing to the music, a part of the band almost, rather than applying something to the music. Wonderful. My first few customers who I have used it for have come back with extremely positive responses too!

I've recently changed my listening environment, so I thought there would be a good idea to put some new test files for Gyraf.

I wasn't going to bump this thread, but as it is here I will say that this device has revolutionised things here. I'm over the initial excitement, but I still get excited by it (if that makes sense). Man it is soooo nice.

It just goes against so much of my experience of working with sound (12-13 years fairly seriously) - you simply can 'not' do the things you do with this eq, it's not allowed!

But it is

Thanks for posting those samples. Very impressive sounding unit. It's hard to find pricing information on the website though. What would be the cost for a dude like me in California?

P.S. Great review macc, I can relate to your passion for good sound. This unit seems to definitely have some good analogue mojo going on!

Mojo off the map mate. I just read my review again, and while I have calmed down, absolutely nothing has changed.

It's lurve baby. We're getting married next week - just don't tell my gf.

Actually I think I spend more time with the G14 than her anyway

I have one coming actually. It was about 3.6k when all was said and done (transaction fees, shipping, etc).

I'd love to hear that too. I'm happy about my Weiss but I need to add some analog eq love to the 2buss. I've tried the MP and didn't like it at all, and the NSEQ, despite being nice, wasn't like I could dig it 100%.

Truth is, I'd like the pultec-style mojo so I was wondering if the G14 could do that and to what extent.

I just got my G14 yesterday, after being stuck in customs for a month. At least it made it! I used it for a bit last night, and mastered 1 song for a client with it tonight. So far I think I'm done with equalization forever (between my Sontec and the G14).

I've never operated behind a real pultec, but am semi familiar with what I want a passive equalizer to do (as I've heard a pair of Ear Pultecs used on a lot of my music). I was hoping for that do no wrong pleasing midrange, satisfying bottom that seems to 3-dify, and slight transformer compression. The Gyraf definitely has all these qualities in spades. I of course haven't used it much, but I'm really happy with my initial impression.

I bought it mostly based on Yareck's samples, where imo the Massive Passive was totally obliterated by the Gyraf. Also, fwiw I really didn't dig the NSEQ when I had it, so I feel you on that one too (though with the Fred Forssell mod it supposedly amazing).

Also to keep in mind, Jakob wants payment in Danish Kroner, which means the price fluctuates daily. I know it would be a few hundred dollars more to buy it today than when I bought it.

Thanks for the review. Judging by the many before and after samples I've heard of this unit it's quite impressive to say the least.

It sounds like a 3D silky smooth, mojo goodness machine.

I'm very pleased with my G14 too, in case I forgot to mention it ;-) Using it on 3 out of 4 jobs.

I have been eagerly waiting for the delivery of my G14, arranged for February 1.

Unfortunately, because of the tremendous downsurge in oil-prices, the Norwegian Kroner has weakened roughly 30% in relation to the Danish Kroner from September to December 08. In other words, my price on the G14 has increased by the same amount. A royal PIA.

I have had to call Jakob and ask him to put my delivery on hold until the relationship between the two currencies evens back up.

Another lesson in frustration. Really needed that "3D silky smooth, mojo goodness machine" today. "That do no wrong pleasing midrange, satisfying bottom that seems to 3-dify, and slight transformer compression."

Nice! I'll hold off the pultec idea as it's not financially feasible but I think I'm gonna have to pull the trigger on the G14 in the near future

Thanks macc and lagerfeldt for sharing your thoughts on this cool eq.

Sucks... nice for me though when I'm buying gear in the UK or USA. Danish Krone is up, up, up against both $US and EUR.

Not so good for my international business but I haven't experienced a decline yet.

Bummer dude,

you can pay any time between when you place the order and the eq is finished. Then it becomes a little like playing the stock market. I waited until the exchange rate seemed like it wasn't gonna get better (researched the trends etc), then sent my payment. Luckily it timed out right for me.

Situation here is even worse with the US Dollar. Under 5 Norwegian Kroner half a year ago, now well above 7 NOK. The Euro too is way out of it's normal range.

It's a wierd scene.

Definitely not a good time for buying expensive gear from abroad at the moment.

Anyone up to date Denmark's economy these days? Any thoughts on where the Danish Kroner might be heading against the US $$?

Seems like it's holding out well against everyone else, why? Is it just late to the hangover?

Denmark has one of the strongest and most stable economies in the world. No sign of a drastic change at the moment for the Danish Krone against US$.

Why? 97% employment rate and only a 1.5% inflation rate, a well regulated market, exceeding the third phase economic convergence criteria for the EMU, etc.

But even experts can't predict the financial future, so neither can I Now our exports will suffer and lay-offs are beginning.

The economic is cyclic just like the rest of our world. I don't worry.
