What's a good writer?

Hi

Can someone recommend a good CD writer either internal (PC) or external for mastering ? I guess something with a low error rate and error checkable. I have just purchased CD Architect for PC. Currently have an old Sony DRU-500a...

Thanks

Currently, you'll have to look for NOS Plextor drives that will run PlexTools Professional --

The 712, 716, 755 & 760 if I recall.

That's from when Plextor actually made their own drives...

Plextor are still making the Premium 2 in Japan. Someone I know bought one a couple of weeks ago from one of the UK dealers listed on the Plextor website.

Cheers

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like a Plextor Premimum 2... Cannot find any NOS plextors. The Prem 2 also comes with Plex tools, but does not mention if its the professional version. I guess I can buy that seperate anyway.
Out of interest are any Mastering people using this Prem 2?

TIA

Plextor PX-716UF

I have burned insanely clean CD's with this drive, ultra low error. The test was my brothers very old boombox. It never could play any normally burned CD's only commercial CD's. I then gave him a CD I burned on the Plextor and it played...

I've used this drive for the last 2 years with no problems. As I understand it, Plextools LE is now the preferred version of Plextools. You can download the full program from the Plextor website and install it without having a previous version of Plextools on the machine. The older 'Pro' version is good to have for certain jobs (like audio extraction to mp3 with proper tags) but you will need to install it from the CD that came with the drive as the downloads are only updates.

Cheers
