how to defeat Gracenote / CDDB?

hi. i'm re-releasing a disc that was released years ago on another imprint, and do not want the former label to come up in media players. i understand the CD databases track the information by time and track counts, but i'm running into problems trying to throw them off the path.

what i've done is test 1: shortened the end of each track by 1 frame. failed
test 2: added 1s of digital black at the end of the last track. failed
test 3: added 1s of digital black at the end of each piece (3 pieces on the disc). failed

what can i do to defeat these services, short of effecting musical pauses, etc.?

selling: (nothing for the moment)

likes: quiet, great sounding spaces, good instruments and talent; gear and lots of it!

You might look into the Gracenote Partner Program. We use this service to submit information about our releases. You get a (PC only) application from Gracenote into which all of the tags go. This may enable you to trump the existing data.

Charlie,

You have to make a pretty big change. Add a song. Remove a song. Re-order the songs. Change the length of a song by 10 seconds. That sort of thing.

I was once told Gracenote required great accuracy to recognize an album but I have recorded LPs into my system and iTunes recognized them so there is definitely some fuzzy math going on.

i would recommend adding 15.66 seconds (or something random) of silence to the last track.
