Mixing/Mastering in Logic

I am coming to the mix, then master phase of my project. A couple quick questions, please:

Does the buffer size make a difference sonically ? (I have the setting at 64, but no clicks or pops - will a buffer size of 1024 sound any different?)

Does it make a difference sonically if I do a realtime bounce or an offline bounce? (The offline bounce gets done quickly- will a slower, realtime bounce sound any different?)

And, any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks, from Fab.

If you don't hear any clicks it will not.

Sometimes buffer problems sound different and not quite as easily detectable, so I wouldn't press my luck. Use 128 or 256 ms buffer instead when mastering.

No difference unless there's bug or you're using hardware. If you're using hardware you can only bounce using realtime processing.

It's easy to test if the an offline and realtime master are identical. Simply do both and flip the polarity on both sides using the Gain plug-in. If they null (no sound) they are identical.

Well I mastered a track with offline bounce with alot of space designer stuff.
The problem I noticed was that the reverb time was diffrent after the offline bounce.
It simply messed it up!

I did a realtime bounce, problem solved.

I read on a forum that it's better to bounce in 88 Khz and 24 bit before the mastering session. Import the wave file into a new session in logic and make mastering. After, bounce to 44 Khz and dither to 16 bit, is it right ?

88.2 or 176.4 24bits will sound better sure on processing stage. After eq at 88.2 or 176.4 hearing what you are doing, try to use the sample converter to 176.4000 (x10) and then make comp/limit thing (by eye)....... The limiter will sound much much better and smooth and permits you high reduction levels (take in mind attack and release setting must be x10 too), bounce that and then downsample to 176.40 to leave the sound playing right .

Hello guys, i have one question about preparing session to mastering. I know that they want to master to aiff files. Is it separete left and right side of the mix? How to bounce it in logic? Just turn output pan to left and bounce and next file to right and bounce? Or is there any other option?

thanks

No, you can choose for split L-R files in the bounce dialog.

You should probably increase your buffer size a bit for mixing....and never ever do an offline bounce for a finished mix...always realtime...offline is not exact... sometimes does some weird things. For rough mix fine but never for anything serious.

Good Info on the bouncing Nick

I've wondered about this myself being a Pro Tools/Wave Editor user.

I'll forward this info my logic clients
