monitor controler volume 2 spl

hello

there is somebody whom already try the volume 2 from spl
i am looking after a simple volume atenuator between my dac and the amplifier
somebody can advice me something
i was checking out the avocet and the coleman and even croockwood but the budget would be an issue (less than 1000€ for the simple volume atenuator)

best regards

i own spl 2381 but I'm not very happy with quality of it .

I had to replace 1 button already (less then half the year of using it)
and 2 other buttons seems to not 100% working - I feel like
one of my channels plays with less quality with lower volumes it sound like it interrupts sound sometimes or plays it more quiet . then i have to switch off and on button - and then its OK again..

I believe that other SPL products have better buttons
but this one seems to kind of budget solution for me .

or ... maybe its only my unit. ?

I like the neutrality and functionality of the SPL 2381 but unfortunately quite a few people have experienced trouble with the pots on the 2381, myself included.

I also like sound and possibilities of the unit.
but ... buttons (in my case)

did you replace them ?
I think to replace them with switches like this Tyco :
TYCO ELECTRONICS | FTD79G | Switches & Accessories | Electrical & Circuit Protection |

The buttons and all potmeters work 100% on my SPL 2381.

It's (unfortunately) the main volume pot that acts up.

I'm going to get it fixed on friday, until then I'll live with the noise, which only happens when actually turning the knob.

ok seems that spl didn t use the same components in their two diferents serie or maybe the spl volume 2 is better than the spl 2381(but i don t think so) if its not the case maybe spl should offer only the volume attenuator they use in the dmc unit

best regards

I think they're two very different units in terms of control at least.

After troubles with pot of my Volume2 I have sell it and buy GoldPoint attenuator, build myself the box with volume control and some goldpoint switch for custom routing and... God !!! It's light year from SPL !!! The sound is intact, without distortion and shift stereo image. Why why why I have not done it before ?

I have an SPL Volume 2, been using it daily for over a year. Sounds okay to me and I've had no trouble at all with it. For $300 USD, I'm pleased.

SPL, as ALL pot controller, have the problem for stereo shift image. This is physically inevitable. Also, the two ICs inside, that I have replaced with better OPA, give some distorsions. This is electrically inevitable. You can or you cannot feel it, it depends by your monitors and your room acoustics. (maybe too poors)

The only solution for better sonic performance and untouched sound is straight, clear and full analog way like an attenuator as GoldPoint or similar, (of course, with 1% max. tollerance resistors) like into hi-end console.

I have had my SPL 2381 for about three years and it has run perfectly so far. The sound is impeccable. The stereo image does goes out when the volume pot is set lower than 10% but this is to be expected according to the manual. Proper gain staging between the unit and speaker amps will alleviate any problems this may cause.

After having tried many monitors now I use MPS7 and I'm very very happy.
I thought that SPL worked well before listening the GoldPoint

The sonic distortion by IC is terrible.
