They all do the job. Sonox has the enhancement effect thingy which can work well sometimes and at other times make the sound more digital and harsh. The way I check is by reducing the input volume so when I a/b with the enhancer effect they sound as loud as one another to avoid the louder is better syndrome and if i like what it brings to the mix i use it. Often it makes things sound a bit worse. But sometimes it adds just the right touch.

Tc brickwall is my main choice because of the upsampling to detect intersample peaks which really sets them apart. This is especially important because the peaks are not present on a good player, but cheap d/a or file format conversion like mp3 sometimes several 0db peaks close together can cause on overclipping. (I do not know the science behind this and am going on information from one of the conversations i have had with a man that programs for the Duende platform, so my apology's for any misinformation due to ignorance.) Brickwall limiter is designed to address this problem. As I own a digital download site with mp3/flac Brickwall limiter is my main choice.

You may want to check out the PSP Xenon Limiter, that plugin is more than just a limiter, I recently evaluated the demo and after I spent some time with it I absolutely loved it. The last 3 or 4 jobs were done with the Xenon involved. But just this weeks I did a mastering were I liked the Precision Limiter more. I checked out the demo of the MD3 Limiter, but I was not that overwhelmed - ok - a great limiter, but I had not the feeling that it would give me a benefit putting out that much cash for "another" limiter - IMHO there are a lot of alternatives which are at a fragment of the price which are doing the job in a very similar way. Voxengo, Kjarhus etc. But that PSP baby was just different so I immediately purchased the licence.

Md3 is a 3 band multi compressor (with 7 second release times) and expander and soft clip limiter and very smooth sounding EQ that can all run in M/S mode. It also doubles as an M/S encoder and re encoder if you want. When you get Md3 you also get brickwall limiter.

Nothing "just a limiter about it".

Expensive but I found it worth while for me. I got it with the $1000 voucher with my powercore X8. Don't know if I would have otherwise.

Hi,
I was going to purchase MD3 TDM because I have been using MAster X 3+5 for many years and I still like it.

TC needs to increase their Demo period. 15 days is just too little.
Yes, MD3 EQ sectin is pretty sweet, no metallic sound as we sometimes found with MAster X (3+5).

I have been using Xenon on every mstering section and yesterday I had the opportunity to compare Sonnox Oxford Limiter versus Xenon.

I preferred the sound of Xenon. Sonnox seemed to add a slight low mid, which may be or not a good thing.

The exciter session needs to be used with caution, it can make your source sound somewhat harsh.

I also have Mc DSP ML4000 but I still prefer single band units.

So, at the moment I use two instances of Xenon or a combination of TC Master X 3+5 limiting section and one instance of Xenon.

The UAD stuff is really solid. I think you would really like it on electronic music. I do similar stuff myself, and recently bought there masterig suite, been extremely impressed so far.

+100 for PSP Xenon. Best limiter for mastering purposes I've ever used. And affordable.
