If I had to choose one, it would be the 2500.... much more versatile. And I agree with audiomichael, the feedback mode is great!

I personally love the Smart C1.

Can be useful in mastering rock music, often brought in as a parallel thing. It's not a gentle thing, but that's just not the kind of tool. Gentle is over-rated anyway. Sometimes you want a wrench with some torque. Nah mean?

We have too many compressors to justify getting the API 2500 --- although I love all things API, in general --- but I do like the Waves plugin. This is my only acquaintance with the 2500, sadly. Never had the opportunity to use a real one.

Obligatory mention: Waves, as a company, is pretty inarguably gross. But we all know that. Moving on...

We just bought a Thermionic Culture Phoenix mastering compressor, which I'm excited about adding to the arsenal. I am the sole owner of the studio, but my chief engineer and studio manager Devin and I agreed that we should stop buying stuff for a while. Everytime we make profit, we put it right back into gear. After a while, it starts to feel compulsive...

p.s. Btw, Taylor, your music is great and your label is groundbreaking and fantastic. I wish I could afford to buy the whole catalogue. Also, I'm a fan of Richard Chartier.

Try the C1 more similar to an SSL 2 buss comp than the C2!

I compared the C1 and the API2500 and the C1 was the winner ..all of my frieds prefered the C1.

Now I was impressed because at the beggining when I tried the API.. that by the way looks amazing!!!! I said..wow thing thing sounds great..and so many sonic posibilities...very versatile!

So I made the best sound with the C1 and then with the API2500 and after listening the files I realized that I do not care about all the sonic posibilities of the API2500... compared to the C1, the API smears the sound (loses definition and clarity ) ...and the C1 was more alive, more exciting , clear and tight!

Great compressor the 2500....but I am not sure if I want it in my 2bus.
