mastering for classical guitar album

Hi,

Will soon finish recording a solo classical guitar album. Could someone please recommend a good mastering house/engineer to master this album. Who is considered the best at mastering classical guitar albums?

Cheers and hope you can help,

Douglas.

Whichever engineer you choose, keep in mind that with solo classical guitar, there are several directions to go in. Communication is key - I'd dare to say it's much more important than say, a rock mix (where the recording usually dictates the direction).

Mastering solo instrumentation can go anywhere from "a little polish" to complete plastic surgery, depending on the source material of course.

I'd dig through your favorite CD's and try to come up with some names.

Sounds like it's your first one so I would heartily recommend you being there while the 'mastering' is taking place. Classical guitar is such a personal sound for the performer. Flesh and nail need to translate the way you want to hear it regardless if the credentials of the mastering engineer. All the best to you.

This will put you in touch with Julian Bream's people. It's only to his mangement though. Ask about mastering houses for your project.

Thanks for the replies.

Anybody used Hiltongrove Multimedia (http://www.hiltongrove.com) for mastering and or CD duplication? Any comments?

Cheers,

Douglas.

Wait a second, Douglas.
After your question I went to my shelf to look at the best classical guitar album I know of.

It is in fact a two production flamenco LP. One side with Paco Pena with Los Maracuchos ( can also be found on LP "Carnival" from 1969 ) and one side with Paco de Lucia with Ramon de Algeciras. Each and every piece absolute killer in performance, recording and finish.

Unfortunately no information is printed on the cover, so I just wrote Mr. Pena and asked which mastering engineers he might recommend. Also included a link to this thread.

Maybe we´ll be lucky and he´ll respond.

In times of Internet the craziest things have become possible, and you never know.
