Thread Starter | What is the best SRC out there ?
I will start recording at 96khz and my main concern is not not losing the gain of quality when converting my mixes to 44,1. So what should I be using to do that? My DAW is Cubase sx3, and at the moment I downsample directly in Cubase when I export my mix. Thanks for your help, Jean |

UPDATE, I downloaded the Barbabatch demo, and did some comparative tests of a 24/96 drum recording, I converted the file to 16/44 using; Cubase, Peak pro, and Barbabatch, then reimported them in Cubase to listen to the files: I can't hear any difference.. So I guess I'll stick with Cubase. |

Feed those 96k tracks into a nice analog console, use all the good outboard, convert the console output to 44.1k via the best A/D you can get. No that's a sample rate converter! Jim Williams Audio Upgrades |

Thread Starter | Well I wish I was in that situation but I wouldn't ask that question if that was the case..

| SRC Comparisons More src comparisons than you can shake a stick at. Here we use r8brain and iZotope. (I think there may be a connection between goofy capitalization and good SRC.)

Check the link Matt provided above. Look at Weiss Saracon, iZotope, and Sonic HD for three excellent SRCs (the Sonic HD algorithm is not in the new Sonic sB unfortunately, and it's doubtful you'd buy a used HD rig just for the SRC). There's more to it than you'll see in the graphs however. There's a tradeoff between aliasing and pre-echo, and Weiss allows a tiny bit of aliasing above the supposed audible range to help with the pre-echo, thus improving the sound even though the aliasing graph shows a little peak up at the top. The newer iZotope implimentation in RX also allows you to play with several parameters to balance the contributing factors, and Sonic HD has three selectable filters to address the issue. |
