isrc without burning a cd?

hello dear forumers!

i tried to find info on this question in our forum but wasn't successful :(

for the first time i was asked to write isrc into a single wav file (also for mp3).
i know how to burn it on cd but can't find a solution to do this on a single audio file.
can anyone help out?
the idea is to use it for recognition and billing on download platforms.

many greetings!
cem

if u use bwf, u just add it to the comment section.
same goes for mp3, just add it to the comment section of the ID3v2 tag.

there is no real "standard" on this. but this is what i do.

There is a very specific place for ISRC to be embedded into an mp3 id3 tag - and it's NOT in the comments! You can access the ISRC id3 tag subcode and edit it and embed it on an mp3 using Jaikoz MP3 Tagger - Jaikoz MP3 Tagger

I don't know what other software also does this but I imagine there are others out there.

Best regards,

mp3 : problem solved
now with the broadcast wav's.
i have many artists/labels that are always late with the codes.
is there a program where you can ADD the data to a finished master-file.
i can add it in my daw in the rendering/downmix state as usual but not when the master is actually done.

Hi Cem,

I seem to remember you're a Mac user right?
Try Jam or Waveburner. The first one is the easiest.
Turn dither off in the preferences.

Little time ago i asked the very instance that guards the ISRC registration here in Holland, to ask the same you were asking at the beginning of your post.

It seems that there's no real ISRC embedding in a wav or aiff file.
It's just not implemented in the format.
Bwf allows for comments, just like the initial mp3 id tag, but i think it's not a real ISRC implementation.

Best,
Peter

Hello Peter!
Yes, mac here. too lazy to swap platforms all the time and it works for me
i work with peak and it does the job for adding isrc and cd-text.

BUT what to do with single files?
do i understand right that there is no option to add isrc/cd text to a 16bit/44khz file without burning a cd? i mean to a single or multiple files that will not be burned on a cd (sorry for being picky).
there is at least one online distributor (beatport) that sells those files separately (not mp3).

is our modern world incomplete or do i have a logical twist in my thoughts?

No Cem, no twists in your thoughts. I know exactly what you mean!

I'm currently working on an archiving project and my client asked for just the same thing, but it just doesn't exist. I have to tell him to supply the ISRC's separately (maybe added in the BWF's comments) but that just doesn't guarantee that the end user is going to do something with the code(s).

Like you said, our digital world is not complete, and probably never will, but that's another story.

But i think that BWF is a step in the right direction to at least being able to add some attributes to a file. Maybe someday a link between tags and isrc will be made.
And let's not hope that some sort of degrading file compressed format will take over in the meantime.

greetings,
Peter.

got it!
still the question about can you add isrc and / or text to a file that already exists?
EDIT so to say, not write in while generating the actual file.
to explain my problem: when i finally render a mastered title i have the option to type in all kinds of information to the text part (comments, artist, etc...)
but once it is rendered/generated i can't! :(
is there any program that does this job?

Ah, i see ...

Well, i haven't got into that yet. I still work on the audio and trusted that this would be the easy part. Now i'm getting scared haha. There must be a simple way but that's what your're saying too, mmm ...

Maybe Barbabatch ?
a google-search on BWF format ?

Anybody?

In Soundblade it is possible to only add PQ data (also ISRC) to the existing Audio when creating DDP file.

But it may probably easier and more affordable with PreMaster CD.
In a project on PMCD you can always change PQ data and save the current status without delivering or rendering.

Is there an App where you can add ISRC's to AAC files like The Jaikoz MP3 Tagger for mp3's? Or an App that can add ISRC tags to both AAC and MP3 files - XP or OSX?

I was wondering if anyone has found a way to embed the ISRC code for FTP/digital delivery.

Is possible yet?

My solution up to this point has been to send to Code info as TXT so it can be done on the other end.

I have a client that is sending files to the iTunes UK this next week and we are still searching for a solution/answer.

I'm sending a DDP for disc duplication but these other tracks need to be uploaded.

The problem is that none of the standard audio file formats (AIFF, WAVE, SD2, MP3, AAC, etc.) have a field (or "slot") to store ISRC codes that would be universally accepted across all the different applications. It would be a great thing to have this be part of the WAVE file format in the future (or any other non-lossy universal audio file format).

In the interim, the suggestion to put it in a "placeholder" field (like comments or description) so it persists across applications is probably a good one. Then you can at least copy & paste it from the app's file/metadata info dialog and into the necessary ISRC fields.

Hope that helps-
