Thread Starter | Where do I start (if I should)
I've always been interested in audio, and how producers and engineers have a certain "color" in the albums the produce. One example is Andy Johns' work on Van Halen's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and Joe Satriani's "The Extremist". I don't claim to have chromaesthesia (seeing color when hearing sound) but I get a faint impression of color when I'm listening to these albums. Maybe it's influenced by the album art . . . but "F.*.C.K." sounds a little brownish-red (a little more brown, EVH has been searching/developing the elusive "brown" sound) while "The Extremist" sounds more brownish yellow (just like the album art). Anyway, how would I start mastering audio over the internet? Most internet mastering have ftp uploads & sadly I'm not network saavy enough to go that route (& I probably can't afford it). Here's a link to a mastering demo page I threw together earlier today: http://home.comcast.net/~alter-id/audio/mp3player.html I performed, sequenced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the first two tracks. The other two were recorded by my friend Stephen who's just learning to record in his home. The full versions of the first two tracks are on my SoundClick Page: http://www.soundclick.com/scottkingston I've been recording on a Tascam Porta07 4-track cassette in the late '90s. This year I bought a M-Audio FireWire 410, and MXL 2001 and 603 mics which I used on Drifting Sands and Intimidation. I only have cheap entry level monitors, Behringer MS16s (combined with some Logitech Z-540s hooked into a SB Audigy 2XS) that's hooked up to a 15 band stereo EQ (for calibration). Surprisingly this combination gives me what I need to get consistant mixes. But I definitely need better monitors. Any pointers? Feedback? If you think I should continue on this mastering path, what should I do next? Once again, Mastering Demo: http://home.comcast.net/~alter-id/audio/mp3player.html My works: http://www.soundclick.com/scottkingston thanks, Scott |

If you're serious about this, you better get used to the idea of learning new things, including how to use FTP. Good luck!

There's also GigaTribe where you share whole folders privately in a p2p environment. That'll require the people to use windows & the gigatribe program. That's not the best solution because there'll be mac and linux users. There are other alternatives like xdrive & similar hosting sites. I never received any feedback for any of my audio engineering work even though I requested feedback in other forums. I would appreciate it if someone could give me some feedback. thanks, Scott | |
