Dynaudio MA-1 any one used these & what is the diff b/n Mstring Monitors and others

I am not a Mastering Engineer but I am looking to upgrade my monitoring. I currently use a pair of BM6A's to monitor my mixes. I am looking for something that can cleanly manage higher db's and can also manage lower frequencies better. I am ideally looking for something that is an all in one speaker and would prefer to avoid a satellite subwoofer.

I have a budget of about $7 g's

I came across these speakers in my search (amongst others);

MA-1

First off has anyone used these and what are your thoughts?

Second, what is the difference between a mastering monitor and a monitor that an ME would use ? I see no reason why there should be any difference IMO.

Insights and suggestions welcome, thanks.

I haven't tried the MA-1s but the Air 25's. AIR 25

They sound absolutely amazing, wouldn't hesistate using them for mastering. They're rather big of course :-)

However even though it's not what you specified I would recommend you try Klein + Hummel O 300 + O 800 sub system, somewhat smaller but still quite popular in smaller mastering studios.

I've had everything in my studio, Genelec, Tannoy, ADAM, Dynaudio, B&W, but the only system that'll stay with me forever is the Klein+Hummel O 300D + O 800. The sub is the only sub I've owned or heard that sounds perfect and integrates seamlessly into the system (probably an excellent filter is some of the reason).

The list price for the K+H setup is $9.500 in Denmark (I got it for only $7.700 from my dealer though so getting it cheaper is usually not an issue). Get the O 300 (not D version), much cheaper.

hi, i'm kadra. i was given two dynaudio MA-1 studio monitors (both black) by one of dynaudio's managers when they moved premises in London. Their old premises was supposed to be left empty and when the removals people failed to show up, he called me and told me i could keep everything if i moved it all at short notice. Also there are lots of small speakers which i also want to sell.
could you advise me on best way forward or even suggest someone who may be interested.
thanks, Kadra
