Bounced to Analogue Tape with Q Sound

I bounced the mix of this song to tape and then also ran it through my hardware Q Sound unit. Then I mixed the original tape transfer and the track with Q sound, (much lower volume) back into my sound card. I really feel that this has the analogue warmth that I strive for. Listening to it now I wish I had mixed my "brushes" (which where me playing two small paint brushes on newspaper on my lap) lower in level.

Everything was tracked through my ART Pro Channel, tube unit with an MXL V63M mic.

All effects are from my hardware TC m300

I worked on the mix with Voxengo plugs to include the curve eq, tape bus and elephant. Then I transfered that to tape.

I would love to hear your comments and thoughts on how this sounds. If you do, thanks in advance for checking it out!

P.S. I've included a link to download the 320 kbps mp3 and a jpeg of the plugs I used before transferring it to tape.

Bass is a little tubby and a little too loud?

The reverb i would probably automate, dry up a touch and maybe pan it differently.

I think the over all need is a better balance for clarity.

Hey thanks for the comments Thrill they're much appreciated. I was listening to it in my truck today and I agree that the bass is a little bit too loud and tubby is a good word.

I'm going to be doing a different mix because I met a wonderful musician that is going to lay some trumpet parts over it and his wife will hopefully lay some nice saxophone parts as well. I'll definitely remix everything and keep your ideas in mind.

Yes, that is the full harvest moon taken looking East from California this past fall, 2006. Incidentally this Thursday will be a blue moon.

This is my last post for this. I posted it here in the mastering section since I bounced it to tape and used Q sound, (Which I learned about in this section after asking about the amazing sound of Madonna's Immaculate Collection CD).

I took out some bass and then pressed a CD for the trumpeter. I hope that he writes some tasty Miles Davis like parts to lay over it. Here is a link to the newly edited track that I put on a cd for him.

Here's a shot of the so called "Blue Moon" tonight.
