Are LA-4a's used in mastering?

I had someone tell me LA4A's were used in many mastering studios. I've never seen any, but thought I'd ask.

I know any compressor can be used in mastering, but are La4's commonly used?

Just curious. Thanks!

Someone's done it once or twice ... maybe ... er, anything's possible.

I used a pair as VU meters for a while... does that count? Never actually processed anything with them (in a mastering context that is). Very rare in mastering, but I think I may have seen a Canadian mastering studio with some 10 or 15 years ago.

I've never seen LA-4s used. Columbia Records in San Francisco (and I assume elsewhere) used LA-3as back in the '70s.

Yeah, I figured as much. I was surprised when this guy told me this, and would have been even more surprised if the replies to this post supported his claim.

Thanks for the clarification!
